Air pollution is the primary culprit of rise in lung cancer cases. The World Health Organization indicated on October 17th, 2013 that the air we breathe is laced with carcinogens. As per statistic shared by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC); 223,000 deaths from lung cancer worldwide resulted from air pollution in 2010.
Air pollution which is primarily caused by transportation vehicles, power generation, industrial and agricultural emissions as well as residential heating and cooking, are responsible for increasing risks for a wide range of diseases which vary in spectrum from respiratory and heart diseases. Research suggests that parts of the world that highly populated like China and India exposure levels have risen significantly due to rapid industrialization. The scientists preach that chemicals and mixtures that are components of air pollution, including diesel engine exhaust, solvents, metals and dusts are responsible for air pollution. India celebrates Diwali each year in Fall. It is seen that the number of cases with respiratory distress increases. The fire crackers busted during this month emit the worst kind of gases in air and intoxicating the air we breathe. The Times Of India, Ludhiana, 28 October, 2013 pleaded “Make Diwali Green, Not Smoky”. The World Health Organisation is also concerned about the death of more than 1 million people a year from respiratory diseases, most of which are due to exposure to pollutants from cook stoves and open hearths as well as burning incense that releases toxic air pollutants. Burning of incense smoke (dhoop /agarbatti) causes irritation of the eyes, nose, throat and skin; asthma and other respiratory symptoms; headaches; worsening of cardiovascular disease; and changes in lung-cell structure causing cancer. Medical experts recommend opening doors and windows while burning incense indoors as a puja (hindu prayer ritual). Cancer Healer Center wishes you a healthy Diwali.
