Cancer affects your body, mind and soul. It is a disease that destroys the whole family. Chemotherapy, radiation and surgery are options. Immunotherapy strengthens the immunity to fight cancer cells without side-effects. All of these treatments need a strong base, nutrition. Your diet needs to nourish the body not the cancer. Your food needs to positively impact your mind. Where do we start? Firstly, discuss with your doctor about your treatment plan and what foods are reactive to certain medications. For instance, certain cancer specialists avoid recommending citrus foods during chemotherapy. But Immunotherapy has no such restrictions to any food. Secondly, go organic. Eat no processed foods. Beware of chemically treated, coloured, artificial flavours and preservatives. We need to stop the cancer cells from growing, hence restrict all edible carcinogens. Organic produce are treated to natural environment and hence prevent cancer. Thirdly, vegetarian diet is appreciated. Holistic diet is generally vegetarian and it is best to go green. Although, dairy and eggs are essential to have some source of protein. Fourthly, protein should be emphasised. It is important to keep wear and tear of your tissues regenerated. Protein diet helps. Eggs, tofu, paneer, cheese, all dals are important in diet. Drink milk, almond milk and whey protein often. Fifth, fresh green leaves should be an important constituent of all meals. Chlorophyll is not only important for plants but also human friend. With greens comes a natural fighting property. Sixth, wheat grass juice consumption on regular basis increases cancer fighting properties. Seventh, lutein and lycopene are your supplements that strengthen antioxidant capacity. Strawberries, beets, pomegranate, tomatoes, watermelon should enrich your food plate. Eight, keep bowels clean with regular consumption of water, salads and laxatives like Triphala and Isabgol. Ninth, eat what you like. Relish all textures, flavours and spices. Turmeric is cancer fighting agent. Lastly, eat to live. Enjoy your food and believe in our doctors.
