Cancer is not at all contagious. A healthy person cannot catch cancer from a cancer patient through physical relation, touching and having meal with him/her. This is so because the immune system of a healthy person recognizes the cancer cells and other foreign cells and destroys them. Though precautions should be taken in the following cases.
- During transplant of any organ from the cancer patient.
- During pregnancy, if mother has cancer then the risk of cancer transfers to the baby.
- Viruses, bacteria and other parasites in the air may cause cancer in the body of a healthy person.
- Cancer due to certain kind of DNA change in the body of a healthy person.
- Risk of cancer when the transplant of organ has already taken place. This is irrespective of the fact that whether or not the donor was affected with cancer.
